Social media buzzed over this new chicken sandwich. The new product was rumored to come countrywide in 12 varieties, including mango
habanero and hickory smoked BBQ. For $5.49, each patty would be cooked-to-order, crafted to your specifications, with a toasted bun and crunchy pickles.
Unfortunately, many fans who waited too long found it too good to be true. Customers were disappointed
when Wingstop's newly promoted chicken sandwich sold out in six days after a big social media promotion.
According to Restaurant Business Online, Dallas-based Wingstop, which has 1,600 US locations and is 98%
franchised, sold over 1 million of their new chicken sandwiches (a 4-week supply) in the first six days before running out.
The sandwich was tested in 60 Ohio, California, Nevada, and Florida establishments before being released nationwide.
While the product sold out immediately, Wingstop's CEO Michael Skipworth told Restaurant Business that the statewide debut was successful.
"We're thrilled with the love our hand-sauced-and-tossed chicken sandwiches have received, and we're working closely with our supplier
partners to bring the Wingstop Chicken Sandwich back soon, fueled by high demand from both existing and new guests," stated.
